Abstract
1,203,119. Distillation columns, operation under reduced pressure. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 23 April, 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 19191/68. Heading B1B. Distillation column 1, condenser 2 and closed distillate-receiver 3 are maintained under reduced pressure by pumping part of the distillate from receiver 3 through cooler 4, and using the stream of cooled distillate as actuating fluid for an injector 5 which is connected to the vapour space of receiver 3 by pipe 10. Part of the distillate from receiver 3 is returned through pipe 12 to the head of the column as reflux. The injector 5 is associated with a by-pass 14 having a control valve 15. The distillate leaving the injector and by-pass is collected in atmospheric storage vessel 18. The plant is controlled by pressure-regulator 20, flow-regulator 21, and level-regulator 22. The plant may be used to distil benzene from a higher-boiling solvent.
