[Also in Division H2] In a method of introducing gas into a cable the inner sheath 24 is formed with an aperture 22 and is covered by a cup 10 with a valve 12 and elbow 14 provided for the passage of the gas. The cup is sealed to the sheath, which may be plastics or lead, at the lower end and is made gas-tight at the upper end by means of a diaphragm 16 and O-ring 18, the space above 16 being filled with resin. Instead of 16 and 18 a sealing plug, pre-cast on the cable end before the final positioning of the cup, may be used.
