Abstract

1,200,306. Plastic hollow frames. IMPECHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Nov., 1967 [28 Nov., 1966; 9 Feb., 1967], Nos. 53153/66 and 6173/67. Heading E1J. A frame member for forming frames of plastics materials e.g. synthetic polymeric material, fibre reinforced polyester resin, moulded from partially cured mat thereof for doors and windows and having a main hollow rectangular or other cross section, is formed from two components A, B Fig. 2 and has a hollow ridge extending longitudinally therealong produced upon assembly of the two components my uniting a flange 11 a (or 11b of the component A (or B) extending from the side 10a (or 10b which forms one side of the main hollow section, with a flange 12b (or 12a) of the component B of an extension 9" (or 9') of the side 9b (or 9a) which forms a side adjacent the side 10a (or 10b) of the hollow section so that the end of the flange 11 a (or 11b abuts against the flange 12b (or 12a), and a projection 13b (or 13a) on the component A (or B) engages the other component B (or A) to locate the abutment of the flanges 16a, 12b (or 16b, 12a). The projection 13a (or 13b) may have an inclined surface as shown to engage the corner 15a to guide the flange 11a on assembly. The components A, B may be of L- shape as shown or with two ridges at one end of the hollow section, e.g. mirror images of one half of Fig. 2, (as shown in Fig. 3). The inclined surface 14a, 14b may terminate in a horizontal ledge to receive the corner 15a, 15b and the end of the flange 12a or 12b may be provided with a rebate or recess to receive the end 16a, or 16b of the flange 11 a or 11b and the joints may be secured by adhesive. Various shaped joints are illustrated (Figs. 7-13) including interfitting castellated members (Fig. 13).
