Abstract

1,224,874. Metal and plastic window frames. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd: 13 March, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 15806/67. Heading E1J. A window frame member preferably of metal or glass fibre reinforced polyester resin produced by compression moulding comprises two components A, B and has a generally hollow main body portion with a hollow ridge extending therealong and an upstand 9b to form a recess 11 with the main body portion, this latter being formed upon assembly of the components A and B by uniting a flange 3a on component A perpendicular to a leg 1a forming part of the body portion with a flange 5b of the component B extending perpendicularly to an extension 4b of a portion 2b of the component B forming at least a portion of the adjacent-side of the main body portion such that the end of the flange 3a abuts against the rebate of the flange 5b and a projection 6b formed with a rebate on the component B for engaging the other component A to locate the abutment of the flanges 3a, 5b, 6b of the two components. In an alternative construction, (Fig. 2), one component is of generally "U" section and the other component is a cap having a generally flat main section with an extension and a flange at each end. The members may be used in reversible or pivotable windows (as shown in Fig. 3) with the upstand 9 of one frame interengaging in the recess 11 of an opposing frame. Rubber &c sealing strips may be provided in the bottom of the recess 11.
