Abstract

1,132,595. Window and like frame members. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 Oct., 1966 [2 Nov., 1965], No. 46348/65. Heading E1J. A frame member has a cross-section of hollow rectangular configuration having two hollow flanges and formed from two shapings 38, 48 of a synthetic polymeric material e.g. polyester resin, or thermosetting resin reinforced or not with glass fibres, and so shaped, that one shaping 48 is positively located with respect to the other shaping 38 at least in one direction parallel to a side of said rectangular cross-section by its ends engaging in respective channels formed by rib 40 and 41 and projection 43 or 42 of the other shaping 38. The hollow flanges may, as shown, be formed by engaging portions of the two shapings. The shapings may be secured together so that one shaping projects beyond the other to form strong joints which are formed by moulding as integral X or T junctions. The outer members of a frame may be formed from two L-sectioned shapings 18, 21, Fig. 1 in which the hollow flanges are diagonally located with respect to the rectangular section and are formed by the channel-section flange 22 on one shaping 18 being located between the rib 19 and projection 20 on the other shaping. A junction or joint member may comprise the combination of a shaping such as 18, Fig. 1 and a shaping such as 40 Fig. 7 with suitable shapings to form therewith the rectangular sections positively located.
