Abstract

1,196,438. Patenting steel wire. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A. G. Oct. 16, 1967 [Oct. 25, 1966], No.47010/67. Heading C7N. [Also in Division G3] Apparatus for patenting rolled wire comprises a fluidized bed through which the wire passes in fanned-out form on an openwork conveyor, there being also provided an adjustable cooler for the bed material and means for controlling the flow of fluidizing gas; a temperature measuring instrument monitors the wire leaving the bed and causes the conveyor speed to be regulated accordingly so that the desired sorbitic microstructure is produced in the wire. As illustrated, wire 3 is formed by laying head 23 into overlapping turns on conveyor 2, and passes through fluidized bed 1. Radiation pyrometer 11 measures the temperature of wire, and regulates the conveyor speed as necessary through controller 14 and servomotor 15. Bed material is taken off at 7, and is passed through cooler 6 before returning to the entry end of the bed while the flow of gas is controlled by valves 9. Reduced pressure is maintained over the bed by fan 17, the withdrawn gas passing through separator 18.
