Abstract
1501751 Cooling rolled products INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE 15 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974] 1667/75 Heading B3M [Also in Division C7] Steel leaving a hot-rolling mill and traversing a forced cooling zone is monitored by one or more magnetic detectors which determine whether the steel has undergone allotropic transformation. Cooling conditions are consequently adjusted to maintain the relationship of the location at which transformation occurs to the location of the detectors. Preferably an additional detector is located at a point where the steel is always in the gamma-phase, so that a differential signal can be obtained from the two detectors. In an additional feature, an array of detectors is located transversely across the path of the rolled product to uniformity of transformation in that direction.
