Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the billet temperature before entering the finishing pass with high accuracy, in the case of hot rolling the steel material, by computing the deviation of temperature of the steel material before entering the water cooling zone and the temperature after passing the water cooling zone, from the aimed set temperatures, and by using the computed temperature deviation for driving the cooling water's flow rate controller.
CONSTITUTION: Before the hot rolled steel billet traveling along the line 1 is cooled by the water cooling zone 2, the temperature of the billet is detected by the thermometer 11, is stored by the memory unit 13, and is inputted to the deviation computer 15. The computer 15 is inputted with data from the aimed temperature setter 14, and the mean value of measured temperature of the steel billet after passing the water cooling zone 2 detected by the thermometer 12 and averaged by the monitoring arithmetic unit 19. The deviation value obtained by the computer 15 is inputted to the arithmetic unit 20 in which the flow rate operator 16 and the response delay correcting unit 17 operate and correct the required flow rate of the cooling water. The output signal of the arithmetic unit 20 drives the flow controller 18 in order to suitably adjust the flow control valve 4 of the cooling water 5; by which, the billet temperature before entering the finish rolling pass is controlled uniformly.
