Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance cooling capacity and to control cooling of a steel strip in a highly precise manner by a method wherein a pass-around length of the steel strip is controlled to a desired length by moving a rotary cooling body and, at the same time, an outlet side speed of the steel strip after passing the rotary cooling cylinder is controlled to keep tension thereof constant. CONSTITUTION:A high temp. metal strip 1 is introduced into a cooling zone 20 through a hearth roll 7 and kept at a desired strip temp. to be transferred to a next process from the roll 7. In said cooling zone, rotary cooling rolls 2-6 into which a cooling medium is introduced so as to be flowed along an inner peripheral surface of a barrel part thereof and, among said rolls, the rolls 3, 5 are made movable by a cylinder 10. Then, a strip temp. meter 9 of the steel strip 1 is provided to an outlet side of the cooling zone 20 and deviation DELTAt between the measured temp. t1 and a set value t2 is calculated by a temp. controller 13 to be applied to a servo valve 11. Next, the valve 11 is communicated with a cylinder displacement detector 12 through the cylinder 10 and the displacement amount thereof is applied to an operation apparatus 14. Subsequently, a disired signal is introduced into a speed control apparatus 15 to adjust the rotation speed of rotary roll motors 3'-7'.
