Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a steel pipe of finer crystal grains and superior low temperature impact value by performing cooling of the seamless steel pipe out from a sizing machine with a specific constitution.
CONSTITUTION: Conveyor rollers 21 of a conveyor table 2 provided between a sizing machine 1 and a cooling table 3 are provided by being given an angle of inclination. The steel pipe out from a sizing machine is driven forward while being rotated spirally by the rollers 21 given with the angle of inclination. This steel pipe is cooled while being evenly sprayed with a cooling medium from the circumferential direction by outside cooling headers 4. The surface temperatures of the steel pipe having been detected by the temperature detectors 51 provided on the inlet side of the headers 4 are inputted from thermometers 52 to operators 53. Reference values of the specified cooling gradient having been preset in a controller 5 have been stored in the operators 53. The actually measured values having been introduced from the thermometers 52 and the abovementioned reference values are compared, and the openings of the values 43 of the headers 4 are controlled by the deviations thereof so that the rates of injection of the cooling medium are adjusted.
