Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an apparatus for cooling a metal strip capable of obtaining the metal strip with excellent material quality and surface quality by providing a control system of a winding angle of a rotary cooling body for obtaining a desired outlet side temp. of the metal strip by applying measured values of a temp. of an inlet and an outlet sides of a cooling medium, a temp. of an inlet side of the metal strip and a strip passing speed against said rotary cooling body. CONSTITUTION:The metal strip (steel strip S) uniformly heated in a heating furnace 10 is passed around rotary cooling bodies 16, 18 to be cooled. Constants (C, alpha, D) determined by an inlet side temp. tW1 of a cooling medium supplied into the rotary cooling body during cooling, an outlet side temp. tW2 thereof, an inlet side temp. tS1 of the steel strip S supplied to the rotary cooling body, a measured value of a strip passing speed V, a thickness h of the steel strip S, a kind of the steel strip S and an installation are calculated. Then, by using said constants, a winding angle theta for obtaining desired outlet side temp. tS2 of the strip S is calculated and positions of cylinders 20-1, 20-2 are controlled so as to be adjusted to said angle theta. As the result, the cooling of the steel strip can be controlled in a highly precise manner.
