Abstract

PURPOSE:To uniformly cool a hot rolled steel sheet, and to improve its quality, by installing a nozzle for ejecting high pressure cooling water whose flow rate is adjustable correspondingly to temperature of the hot rolled steel sheet, additionally to a zone cooler so as to form a two-stage cooling system, in case of cooling a hot rolled steel sheet. CONSTITUTION:At cooling a steel sheet prepared from a slab through a hot roughting pass and a finishig pass, the upper and lower sides of the steet sheet is water cooled with many cooling water heads 11 of a zone cooler 7 as the first cooling stage. Hereupon, the steel sheet is uniformly cooled by cooling the upper side of the steel sheet with a laminar flow of cooling water and the lower side with a spray of low pressure water. Next, 10-20kg/cm<2> high pressure cooling water is ejected from ejecting nozzles 16 of a high pressure water cooling apparatus 8 in order to cool the steel sheet as the second cooling stage. Many nozzles 16 are arranged over the full breadth of the steel sheet; a thermometer 9 equipped on the lower side of the steel measures the temperature of the steet sheel and inputs the measured temperature values to a controller 10. The opening of the a flow control valve 15 for cooling water to be ejected from the nozzle 16 is controlled by a signal sent from the controller 10; hereby, the flow rate of cooling water to be sent to the nozzle 16 is adjusted so as to continuously cool the steel to uniform temperatures.
