Abstract
1,192,588. Oil-filled cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 10 Sept., 1968 [11 Sept., 1967], No. 41374/67. Heading H1A. For use in the manufacture of an oil-filled electric cable, a cable end plug, Fig. 1, which has a through bore 2 temporarily sealed at 9, is connectable by sleeve 12 to the cable conductor or conductors with the cable sheath forming a vacuum-tight seal to sleeve 7, and has connecting means 11 for attachment to flexible withdrawal means and, when this is detached, to a terminal unit, Fig. 2. The sleeve 7 is made of elastomeric material and held in position by a nut 8. The terminal unit has a tapered portion 23 corresponding to a similar portion on the plug to ensure a vacuumtight seal. The seal 9 is broken by a movable pin 32, and oil is pumped into the cable via a tube 35. Fig. 3 (not shown), illustrates an alternative form of terminal unit, having a hollow pin to break the seal, and through which oil is pumped into the cable.
