Abstract

1,188,456. Asphalt mixer. PHOENIX ENG. CO. Ltd. 27 Feb., 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 20292/68. Heading B1C. The agitator shaft 14 of an asphalt mixer is driven by a hydraulic motor 11 which is actuated by fluid pumped from reservoir 4 by a hydraulic pump 2 driven by a power unit 1. To prevent possible damage to the agitating mechanism by operation of the agitating mechanism before the asphalt is sufficiently fluid, a pressure relief valve 9 is provided between the pipes leading to and from the hydraulic motor. The shaft 14 is provided with agitator blades 15. A burner (not shown) may be provided in zone 17 of the pan 16 to melt the asphalt. The power unit may also be used for driving oil firing equipment as described in Specification 1,188,455.
