Abstract

966,695. Concrete mixers. WINGET Ltd. Aug. 10, 1961 [Aug. 22, 1960], No. 29031/60. Heading B1C. In a concrete mixer of the type having an upright cylindrical stationary mixing pan 1 with an annular mixing chamber 3, a hydraulic motor 27 is suspended from cover 5 of the central space 4 which is open at the bottom, and is supplied with pressure liquid from a pump 49 which is partly contained within the central space. The boost pump 51, driving motor or engine 46, supply tank 52 and oil cooler 55 are also contained in the housing formed by the central space 4 and the supports 34, 47 of the mixing pan. The hydraulic motor 27 drives through a shaft 12 an overhanging rotor 25, 26 which carries resiliently mounted mixing paddles 38. The motor 27 may drive the shaft 12 directly as shown, or through a reduction gear of not more than 2 to 1, and may be of fixed displacement type supplied by a fixed delivery pump, the speed of the motor being varied by a central lever which by-passes part of the oil, see Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively the pump may be of variable displacement, conveniently swash-plate, type, see Fig. 3 (not shown). A relief valve in the hydraulic circuit may be arranged to limit the starting torque and control the acceleration of the mixing paddles. The pump may also operate rams, winches or hoists for charging and discharging.
