Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the cooling performance of a radiator by a method wherein the rotation of a cooling fan and that of water pump vanes are controlled during idling and during high-speed operation. CONSTITUTION:Water pump vanes 22 are fixed to the rear end of a driving shaft 23 and a cooling fan 25 is fixed to the front end of the driving shaft 23, so that the vanes 22 and the fan 25 are rotated synchronously. The driving shaft 23 is driven by a velt 28 through the main body of coupling 26. A clutch plate 31 fixed to the driving shaft 23 is contained in an oil chamber 30 provided within the main body of coupling 26, and a slip oil is sealed in the oil chamber 30. During idling, the main body of coupling 26 and the clutch plate 31 rotate as an integral unit. During high- speed operation, the driving shaft 23 slips, so that the rotation is reduced by the amount corresponding to the slip when it is transmitted.
