1,178,297. Making sheets; altering physical properties. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 27 Feb., 1967 [29 March, 1966], No. 9297/67. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division C7] A process for producing grain-oriented siliconiron sheet with improved properties in the transverse-to-rolling direction, by providing a hot-rolled sheet-like body consisting of 1À5-5% Si balance iron apart from incidental impurities, decarburizing the body, if necessary, before the grain-growth anneal, to obtain a carbon content less than 0À01% such that the body is totally ferritic in the range 900-1100‹ C., and coldrolling the body at room temperature, annealing at 900-1100‹ C. for a sufficient time to increase the average grain size to not less than 0À1 mm., cold-rolling with a reduction of 40-65% and finally annealing at 900-1250‹ C. The thickness of the body after the first cold rolling step is preferably 20-50 mils.
