Abstract

1,260,405. Casting processes; making plate. NIPPON STEEL CORP. 3 March, 1969 [2 March, 1968], No. 11088/69. Headings B3A and B3F. [Also in Division C7] Cold-rolled steel plate, with a superior surface finish, is produced by casting a steel made in a converter or open-hearth furnace and containing no more than 0À07% C, 0À04-0À2% Mn and 0À004-0À02% S (with a Mn/S ratio of at least 7), the balance, apart from impurities, being Fe, adding Al immediately, or within several minutes, after pouring to give a residual amount of acid soluble Al of at least 0À01%, such that the core is killed, hot-rolling and cold-rolling the ingot and then subjecting the plate to recrystallization and annealing. The carbon content of the product is 0À02-0À06%.
