Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an excellent base plate for a magnetic disk having a refined crystal structure by soaking and hot-rolling an Al alloy ingot contg. a specified amount of Mg, Fe, Mn and Cr followed by cold rolling at a specified reduction ratio, process annealing, cold rolling to a prescribed thickness and final full annealing or semihard annealing.
CONSTITUTION: An Al ingot contg., by wt., 3W5% Mg as an essential component, ≤0.1% Si, ≤0.2% Fe, ≤0.4% Mn and ≤0.1% Cr is soaked, hot rolled, and cold rolled at ≥25% reduction ratio. It is subjected to process annealing at 300W500°C for 0.5W28hr and cold rolled to a prescribed thickness. Final full annealing or semihard (partial) annealing is then carried out to obtain a marcrostructure composed of fine stable recrystallized grains with no directional properties.
