Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy hard plate with a low edge ratio in deep drawing and high strength by subjecting an Al alloy contg. a specified amount of Mg to hot rolling, cooling and cold rolling under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy contg. 2W4% Mg is hot rolled to a thickness ≥5 times as large as the final thickness at ≥300°C final temp. The alloy can contain, for instance, ≤0.5% Cr, ≤1.5% Mn, 0.01W0.05% Ti, 0.01W0.05% Zr and 0.005W0.12% V if required. The hot rolled plate is then cooled from the hot rolling finish temp. to 240°C in ≥3hr. By this slow cooling, recrystallization is well advanced. Finally, the plate is subjected to finish cold rolling to the predetermined thickness at ≥80% reduction ratio. Thus, process annealing is omitted, resulting in a lowered manufacturing cost.
