Abstract

1,178,136. Chimneys. GAS COUNCIL. 17 July, 1968 [23 May, 1967], No. 23924/67. Heading F4J. A flue system for heating appliances 16 in a multi-storeyed building comprises an opentopped U-shaped duct 10, balanced flues 17 of the appliances opening into the riser limb 14 with fresh air flowing down the limb 13, the total flow cross-section of openings 18 in the centre wall 19 and the U-bend 15 being greater than that of either limb separately. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the openings 18 are dispensed with and the cross-section of the single U-bend is at least equal to the total crosssection of both limbs. The U-bend has a height of between half and one storey.
