A chimney comprises a joined assembly of flue pipe units having four air ducts e equally spaced angularly and outwardly of the flue b to convey air from and return it to horizontal openings f near the top of the chimney, the lower ends of the ducts e opening into a balancing chamber h surrounding a fireplace a and the lower portion of the chimney, and having outlet i in the top thereof to supply the air to the interior of a building for ventilation and prevention of downdraughts in the flue. Interposed between the flue b and the air ducts e are four equally spaced sealed chambers k containing static air for insulation purposes.
