Abstract

1,174,788. Photo-mechanical production of printing plates. ITEK CORP. Dec.22, 1966 [Dec.23, 1965], No.57488/66. Headings G2C and G2M. A photo-mechanical process for producing a lithographic plate comprises imagewise exposing a material comprising a support, a layer containing a silver halide developer and a layer containing gelatine and silver halide, applying an activator solution so that the developer develops the latent silver image and the oxidized developer reacts with the gelatine to form a hydrophobic image; the water-absorption characteristics of the gelatine being reducing by applying an alkali metal halide, sulphate or nitrate. The alkali metal salt is preferably applied after development e.g. it is added to an acid stop bath. The preferred materials are those disclosed in Specification 978, 744 and the preferred stop baths are those of Specification 1, 057, 389 containing phosphoric acid, benzyl alcohol, triethylene glycol and the alkali metal salt.
