678,187. Making photo-mechanical printing plates. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. July 8, 1950, No. 17140/50. Addition to 648,897. Class 98 (ii). [Also in Group XVI] The process of the main invention, for the production of planographic printing plates comprising a support carrying a hydrophilic colloid layer, is modified in that the colloid layer is treated with the higher valency salt or salts of a metal capable of acting with more than one valency before the original is copied thereon. The treatment with the reducing agent or agents, if applied before copying, may be done before or after the metal salt treatment; an unhardened silver halide emulsion layer for copying photographically may be coated on to the colloid layer after the metal salt treatment. The gum arabic is omitted from the 1000ml. water, 20 gm. CuCl 2 solution referred to in the parent Specification, and is applied as a separate solution after copying. Specification 547,517 is referred to.
