Abstract
1,256,971. Photographic processes for producing relief image. ITEK CORP. Jan.20, 1969 [Jan. 22, 1968], No.3206/69. Heading G2C. A photographic process for producing relief images comprises imagewise exposing a material comprising a support coated with a layer of a photo-sensitive substance in a binder, physically developing the latent image in the exposed areas until the layer becomes frangible and removable in these areas and then removing these areas. The specified photo-sensitive layer is titanium dioxide in hardened gelatine. In the examples, the photosensitive layer is coated on a subbed cellulose ester support, preferably soaked in silver nitrate, imagewise exposed, physically developed with a solution containing ferrie, ferrous and silver ions for four days and the exposed area slough off. Alternatively, they may be removed by washing, brushing or bleaching. The relief image may be used as a printing plate or as a master for diazo copying if a transparent support is used. A positive or negative of the original is obtained if the photo-sensitive layer or the support respectively are coloured black. Alternatively, the relief image may be uniformly exposed and physically developed to produce a reverse image which may be further amplified by copper plating.
