Abstract

1,200,065. Colour photography. AGFAGEVAERT A. G. Dec.19, 1967 [Dec. 20, 1966], No. 57525/67. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C2] Photographic colour images are formed from a material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer and containing in said emulsion layer or a layer adjacent thereto a uniformly dispersed non- wandering organic compound which forms a coloured complex with free transition metal ions by (1) forming a silver halide image in said emulsion and then (2) applying a transition metal complex which reacts with the silver halide to form a silver complex and liberate transition metal ions which react with said organic compound to form a second, coloured complex. In a modification the silver salt is converted to a mercury salt before applying the metal complex. The silver halide image may be formed either by (i) imagewise exposing, and developing to form a silver image in the exposed areas and leaving silver halide in the unexposed areas or (ii) imagewise exposing, developing, fixing, and converting the Ag image thus formed back to silver halide. Images having integral masks may be formed by (a) using a coloured complex which dyes the areas not containing silver halide, or (b) after-treating the imaged material with a solution of a transition metal salt to form a coloured complex with the unused compound in the areas not containing silver halide. Multi-colour images may be formed from materials having three emulsion layers, each containing an appropriate organic complexing agent.
