Abstract

1,173,788. Motor fuels. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 23 March, 1967 [April 29, 1966], No. 13786/67. Heading C5G. A motor fuel comprises a mixture of hydrocarbons in the gasoline boiling range containing 0.01 to 0.2 volume per cent of a polyolefin polymer, or a corresponding hydrogenated polymer, having an average molecular weight, as determined by an osmometer, of 500-3,500 and which is a polymer of a mono-olefin or of a diolefin or a copolymer of either. Suitable olefins are ethylene, propylene, butylene, amylene, hexylene, isoprene and butadiene. The base fuels consist of straight chain or branched chain paraffins, cycloparaffins, olefins, aromatic hydrocarbons, or any mixture of these and may also contain tetra-alkyl lead compounds, ethylene chloride-ethylene bromide scavengers, dyes, upper cylinder lubricating oils, corrosion inhibitors and anti-icing additives.
