Abstract

1,243,264. Liquid fuel. CITIES SERVICE OIL CO. 31 Dec., 1968 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 61818/68. Heading C5G. A liquid hydrocarbon fuel contains as a smoke suppressant a minor proportion of both a group IIA and a group IIB metal salt of an organic carboxylic acid having at least 4 carbon atoms. A preferred composition is a diesel fuel containing 0À1-0À6 wt. per cent of Ba and Zn- 2-ethylhexanoates. The composition may also contain a minor proportion of an ether, particularly the mono and dialkyl ethers of ethylene glycol, and of a group IIA metal alkaryl sulphonate. An additive composition comprising both groups II A and II B metal carboxylates and an ether is also claimed.
