Abstract

1,274,060. Liquid fuel. CITIES SERVICE OIL CO. 25 Nov., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968], No. 57645/69. Heading C5G. A smoke suppressant composition for addition to liquid hydrocarbon fuels (e.g. Diesel fuels) comprises (a) an ether; (b) a Group IIa metal salt of an organic carboxylic acid; (c) a Group IIb metal salt of an organic carboxylic; acid and (d ) a Group IIa metal sulphonate. The fuels may contain the components in amounts: (a) 0À05-5 wt. per cent; (b) and (c) 0À05-5wt. per cent; and (d) 0À05-1 wt. per cent. The ether may be aliphatic or aromatic, a polyol ether or heterocyclic ether. Compounds used in the examples are: (a) monomethyl ether of ethylene glycol or 1 methoxy-2-propanol (b) Ba-2-ethyl hexanoate (c) Zn. 2-ethyl hexanoate (d) Ba alkaryl sulpnon- ates.
