565,832. Motor fuels. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Dec. 10, 1941, No. 13823/44. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1940. Divided out of 565,803. [Class 91] A motor fuel composition comprises a blend of from 5 to 10 per cent by volume of a low molecular weight hydrocarbon component having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms per molecule, with a major proportion of a branched chain alcohol having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms per molecule. Water may be added in an amount up to 30 per cent by volume on the total blend. The hydrocarbon component may comprise paraffins, olefins, cycloalkanes, or cycloalkenes, or mixtures thereof unsaturated constituents should preferably contain no more than one double bond. Hydrocarbons specified comprise n-pentane and plant butane (i.e. containing isobutane and butenes). The alcohols specified comprise isopropyl alcohol, the branched chain secondary amyl alcohols, tertiary-butyl, isobutyl- and ter.-amyl alcohols. Other usual additives may be present in the compositions, such as an anti-knock as tetraethyl or methyl lead, a dye, thickening agent, or lubricant.
