Abstract

1,171,653. Valves. AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP. 2 Feb., 1967, No. 5197/67. Heading F2V. A three-way valve has formed in its body 10 a fluid pressure inlet duct 12 and two service outlet ducts 11 and 13, flow from the inlet to either one of the outlets being controlled by a cup-shaped member 18 movable across the inlet and outlet ducts and adapted to connect only two ducts in either one of its two operative positions. Member 18 is disposed within an aperture 20 formed in a linearly reciprocable permanent magnet 19, which magnet has disposed above it a solenoid 27 and together with the solenoid is surrounded by a casing 30. Into the core of the solenoid is fitted an internally screw threaded nut 25 which carries a screw 32 and has a flange bearing on the magnet, there being disposed between the nut and member 18 a spring 23 for biasing member 18 against the valve body. Direct current applied to the solenoid polarizes the casing which in turn causes the magnet, and hence member 18, to move in a direction dependent on the polarity, thereby bringing port 12 into communication with either one of ports 11 and 13, the redundant port then being vented to atmosphere through an outlet 33. If the pressure at the inlet 12 becomes excessive, it is then capable of raising member 18 so that the pressure in excess of that desired may be vented to atmosphere through port 33.
