Abstract

983,247. Valves. AURORA CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS. March 24, 1961 [March 24, 1960; April 22, 1960], No. 10955/61. Heading F2V. A fluid-flow control valve comprises a valve body 12 having two axial cavities 14 and two parallel transverse passages 48, 52 which extend right through the body and communicate with the cavities, these passages, as shown, may be rectangular. The passage 48 forms a high pressure passage, and the passage 52 an outlet passage. Working passages 50 are also provided intersecting the cavities 14. Each cavity 14 is stepped to form a valve seat 18 for a valve closure 20 which is provided with a central passageway 22, the end of which forms a valve seat 26 for a second valve closure 46 formed on the end of a plunger 40. The end of the plunger 40 bears against a rocker arm 102 which may be actuated manually or electrically. When the plunger 40 is depressed against a spring loading 38 the valve 46 is closed and the valve member 20 is moved to allow flow from the highpressure passage 48 to the working passage 50. On moving the rocker in the opposite direction the valve 20 closes after which fluid pressure in the working passages 50 acts on the underside of plunger 40 to open the valve 46 and allow flow through passageway 22 to the outlet passage 52. The use of the through passages 48, 50, 52 allows plates to be secured to the body having connections for the necessary piping, these connections being arranged so that the piping may be connected at the required side of the valve. Connector plates may also be provided having outlets for the working passages and through ports for the inlet and outlet passages so that a bank of valves may be connected together.
