Abstract

990,104. Hydraulic control systems. R. C. PEARSON. Feb. 17, 1964 [July 1, 1963], No. 26036/63. Heading F1P. [Also in Division F2] Valves 9 and 10 in the supply conduits 33 and 7 to opposite sides of a differential jack 1 are open during normal operation of the jack but close in the event of failure of the supply pressure. The valves are identical in construction and comprise a valve closure member 11 connected to a piston 15 and loaded to the closed position by a spring 13. With the valve in the closed position, the pressure of fluid in a chamber 14 acts equally on the valve closure and piston which is thus pressure balanced. A main piston 18, of larger area than the piston 15 is moved by fluid pressure acting in opposition to a spring 20 to open the valve at a predetermined pressure. In operation of the valve 10, the supply pressure is fed to a port 22 and through a branch 26 and non return 27 to act on the piston 18 to open the valve thus allowing flow between ports 22 and 24. If the supply pressure fails, the pressure acting on piston 18 can escape through passage 31 and the valve closes. However, if the jack continues moving to the left due to inertia, the pressure in the line 25 acts to hold the valve open to allow flow from port 24 to 22 thus acting as a deceleration valve for the jack until it is stopped. The valve 9 acts in a similar manner.
