Abstract

1,166,844. Window frames. C. G. W. CARTER. 19 May, 1967 [20 May, 1966], No. 22499/66. Heading E1J. A window frame which may be used for converting a single existing window into a double window, comprises channel section of aluminium or hard plastics members 32, 33, 34 adapted to receive the marginal portions of fixed or sliding panes 31 at least one side of the frame e.g. 34 including two of the members 32, 34 or 33, 34 which are slidable one with respect to the other so as to adjust the frame in size in one dimension to fit into a window opening containing the existing window. As shown the frame is three sided and the side 34 is adjustable by sliding the corner L-shaped pieces towards or away from the slidable bridging piece 34. The channel pieces, once fitted to the opening are secured to the wall thereof and the sliding or fixed pane 31 is inserted, the upper channel 32 being deeper than the lower channel 33 so that the pane may be lifted into channel 32 and then dropped into channel 33. The window may comprise two relatively sliding frames with dovetail or tongue and groove couplings or two frames may be aligned in parallel planes with slidable panes therein, with straight excluder between the meeting edges 4 sealing linings around the edges of the panes and may be secured thereto by adhesive, to slide on nylon strips in the lower channel member 33.
