1,137,797. Panel and window assemblies. CLIVE INVESTMENTS PTY. Ltd. 30 Aug., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 39727/67. Heading E1J. A panel or window assembly comprises a main frame 4, 23, composed of metal sections or frame members for mounting in an opening in a wall or the like, the lower rail or sill 4 having a first flange 8 carrying dust excluder strip 9 and a second flange 11 of lesser height than flange 8, the head 23 of the main frame having two depending flanges 24A each with dust excluder strips 25 on confronting faces and a sliding panel 10 having on its lower rail a pulley 12 for sliding engagement on the flange 11 and having a face engaging the strip 9, the upper rail of the panel 10 fitting inside the upper head rail 23 and engaging against the strips 25, and a fixed panel 16 whose frame is secured e.g., by screws 33 to the head 23 and sill 4, passing through flanges on the fixed panel. One flange 24A is recessed at 29 to seat the toe of the flange 22. The depth of the flanges 24A is sufficient to allow the slidable sash to be lifted from its guide rail 11 and turned as indicated in dotted lines to be taken out of the main frames. The outer slides of the movable panels 10 enter a pocket (35 Fig. 3) in the stiles of the main frame and these stiles on the slidable frame have a chamfer (37) which mate with the edge of the pocket (35) to press the slidable frame against the draft and dust excluder strips (42) on the main frame, as the frame is pushed home by levers (38). An insect screen may be received between the channel 31 and rail 30.
