[Classes 20 (iii) and 137] A non-rattling weather tight engagement between the stationary frame and each sliding sash of a double hung window is provided by a resilient strip 79, Fig. 4, secured to the sides of each sash by lips 81 engaging hooked edges of the flanges 74 of the sash, each strip having deformable lips 78 engaging the channel in the stationary frame. The sash and frame may be of extruded metal and each sash may be moved in its own plane against spring pressure further into one of the channels in the stationary frame so that its other side clears the channel at that side whereby the sash may be swung as a whole and removed from the frame as shown in dotted lines. The hollow bottom rail 60, Fig. 2, of the inner sash houses a vertically slidable ventilating board 62 having a louvred aperture 66 therein. When the inner sash is slightly raised the board passes through an aperture in the bottom of the rail and bridges the gap between it and the sill 12. A resilient strip 40 provides a weather-tight joint between the two sashes.
