Abstract

1,166,166. Two-part couplings. M. & C. SWITCHGEAR Ltd. 19 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 35917/67. Heading H2E. In a plug-and-socket connector in which the plug member 14 is accommodated in an earthing socket 11 in the socket member (10), (Fig. 1, not shown), earthing is achieved by having a resiliently-flexible conductive corrugated ring 13, located by and projecting out of a peripheral recess 12 in the socket wall, the longitudinal corrugations serving to make good multi-point contact with the plug member 14 on the one side, and the socket member 11 on the other. The ring, which may be of phosphor-bronze, is compressed while being inserted into the socket 11 before being allowed to expand into the recess 12. In an alternative arrangement (not described in detail), the ring may be located in a recess in the plug.
