Abstract

1,165,762. Valves. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. 10 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967],No. 22113/67. Heading F2V. A gas tap has a metal or plastics sleeve 19 loosely keyed on to a spindle 1 by a diametric pin 23 through the spindle engaging opposed slots 22 in the sleeve. A detent 18 on the end of a hairpin-like spring 24 engages in a notch or set of notches 26 in the periphery of a flange 21 of the sleeve to define intermediate or simmering positions of the tap. The flange 21 has a second set of notches which, if the tap is to be used with a different gas requiring different intermediate positions, can be brought into engagement with the detent 18, instead of the first set, by rotation of the sleeve about the spindle when the pin 23 has been disconnected from slots 22. The notches may be provided in the face of the flange 21 and the spring 24 may engage the flange 21 with both legs to balance the forces on the sleeve. The flange 21 axially abuts a plate 7 fixed to the valve body 8 in which is rotatable a tapered plug 9 that is actuated by the knob 2 through lugs 4 on a disc 3 fast with the spindle 1 engaging in slots 10 of the plug. A lug 5 on the disc 3 engages stops 17 pressed from plate 7 to limit the angular movement of the knob and slots 15 to lock the spindle in the end positions, the lug 5 being moved out of the slots 15 by pressing the knob against the force of spring 16 to move the disc 3 axially.
