Abstract

1,237,295. Valves. G. H. VAN LEEUWEN. 10 April, 1969 [10 April, 1968], No. 18456/69. Heading F2V. The closure member 7 of a gas safety cut-off valve is urged by a permanent magnet into engagement with a seat B when the gas pressure drops below a given value, the magnetic force being such that the valve remains closed when the gas pressure is restored. In the illustrated embodiment, the gas pressure acts on a diaphragm 4 to hold the closure member away from its seat against the force of two permanent magnets 9, 10, a ring 11 of non ferro-magnetic material preventing excessive adhesion. The closure member slides on a tubular guide 13 and is reset through a lever 15 and a spring-loaded push button 16. Either magnet may be replaced by a soft iron ring. In a second embodiment, the diaphragm is made of ferro-magnetic material to serve as a closure member while the seat is formed by two concentric rings of plastic material on the lower magnet.
