776,320. Valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 3, 1955 [June 3, 1954], No. 16033/55. Class 135. A drain valve for a sink &c. comprises a plug 14, Fig. 1, fixed together with a permanent magnet 16 on a stem 12 slidable in a sleeve 11 of high magnetic permeability material, for example, iron, mounted in a strainer basket 7 carried in the drain opening. The plug is moved manually between the open and closed positions but is held in the open position by the magnet. In a modification, the plug is fixed to the stem above a seat ring carrying on spider arms the high permeability sleeve, and the permanent magnet is fixed to the stem below the seat ring.
