Abstract
830,394. Electromagnets. PETERS & CO. Ltd., G. D. May 25, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1956], No. 5631/56. Divided out of 830,393. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIX] The aligned taperedinterconnected inlet and exhaust valves 23, 25 controlling a pneumatic door motor are opened and closed, respectively, upon momentarily energizing coils 34, 35 around a soft iron armature 31 slidable in a brass sleeve 32 ; the armature, which supports a spring-loaded valve actuating tapper 15, is thereby elevated and retained in this position by an annular permanent magnet 33 secured to the top plate 38 of an iron casing 37 having an annular portion 39 of non-magnetic material. The plate 38 incorporates a conical bush 46, which in the elevated position of the armature, seats in a corresponding shaped recess therein. The armature is returned to the inoperative position shown upon momentarily energizing another coil 36 whereupon the valve 23 is seated by air and spring pressures, and the valve 25 falls to the open position.
