Abstract

830,393. Electromagnets. PETERS & CO. Ltd., G. D. May 25, 1956 [May 27, 1955], No. 15346/55. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIX] A valve 1, Fig. 2, for controlling a pneumatic door-motor is housed in a casing having an inlet 2, a motor connection 3 and an exhaust 4, the casing supporting a soft-iron yoke carrying a double-wound coil 8 and polepieces 9, 10; plates 13, 14 secured to the casing serve as guides for a permanent-magnet armature 12. Momentary energization of one of the windings of the coil 8 raises the armature 12, thereby lifting a valve plunger 15 and so closing an exhaust valve 25 and opening an abutting inlet valve 23, the armature magnetism being sufficient to retain the plunger 15 in this position until the other coil winding is momentarily energized to repel the armature, whereupon the valves 23, 25 are returned to their initial positions by the compressed air in the inlet 2 and springs 24, 26. In a modification the valves are actuated by a bar magnet armature 21, Fig. 5, centrally pivoted between two pairs of poles 17, 19 and 18, 20, energized by one coil, the direction of current in which is reversible.
