Abstract
806,455. Electromagnets. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. July 12, 1956 [July 13, 1955], No. 20302/55. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVII] A magnetic device, e.g. a relay, comprises a U-shaped magnet yoke 1, 3 having a control winding 2 and a permanent magnet 10 clamped between non-magnetic bars 7a, 7b extending between the yoke limbs 3. The magnetic axis of the magnet 10 is horizontal and against each pole is clamped a pole-plate 12 and positioned in each air gap between the limbs 3 and the magnet assembly 10, 12 is an armature assembly 15. Each armature assembly comprises a pair of vertical soft iron bars 16, a pair of non-magnetic plates 18 and a pair of non-magnetic rods 17 serving to hold the parts in spaced relationship. The ends of each rod 17 are carried by resilient strips 19 flanged at 19a and fixed at their ends remote from the rod to the plates 12. Normally, when the coil 2 is not energized the armatures occupy the equilibrium position, Fig. 4, due to the flux 25 from magnet 10. Energization of the coil to produce the flux 26 causes a downward movement of the left-hand armature as viewed in Figs. 3, 4 and an upward movement of the right-hand armature.
