1314301 Valves RANCO CONTROLS Ltd 14 July 1971 [15 April 1970] 33142/71 Divided out of 1312718 Heading F2V [Also in Division H1] A combined gas valve 2 and electric switch 1 for control of appliances operable by gas or electricity has an operating spindle 4 which, when moved from an off-position to operate either the valve or the switch, is then unable to operate the other without first returning to its off-position. As shown, rotation of the spindle in the raised position to which it is biased by spring 20 is transmitted to the switch operating cam 5 by limb 15a of a ring 15 fast with the spindle. A pin 16 on the spindle prevents depression thereof, as is required to actuate the valve, once the spindle has been rotated to move the pin from alignment with slot 19. When the spindle is returned to the position shown, it can be depressed so that pin 16 passes through slot 19. At the same time, limb 15a is disengaged from cam 5, limb 21b of a loose ring 21 is engaged between stops 23 although limb 21a remains in engagement with cam 5 to preclude rotation thereof, and limb 31 of drive ring 26 is disengaged from recess 31 as the drive ring is depressed against spring 32 following introduction of the end 24 of spindle 4 into socket 25. The rotary disc valve member 27, which may alternatively be a tapered plug, is then able to accompany rotation of the spindle whilst cam 5 is fixed. Pin 16 now rides under cap 18 to prevent return upward movement of the spindle until the latter is moved to re-align the pin with the slot 19. Switch 1 can have pairs of effective terminals 8, 10 and 11, 12, terminals 9, 13 not being used.
