Abstract
1,160,514. Centrifugal casting-machines. SHAHMOON INDUSTRIES Inc. 17 Oct., 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 46400/66. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C3] In a centrifugal pipe-casting machine the pipe moulds 30. 40 are carried on shuttle cars 14, 16 that are moved individually or as a pair by hydraulic rams 118, 120 from a central pouring and core setting station 20, 18, to pulling and spraying stations 22, 24, 26, 28 where the cast pipe is pulled from the mould and the mould sprayed internally with a mixture of, for example, silica flour and bentonite suspended in water. The molten metal is poured from a holding ladle 54 into ladles 52 in measured quantities and then poured via rectractable boots 50 into the pipe moulds that are water cooled. The moulds rest in pairs between two spaced sets of spin wheels cornprising driven centre wheels 32, 33 and idler wheels 34, 35, 36, 37. The shuttle car carrying the charged moulds is then moved to a pulling and spraying station and the shuttle car carrying the empty moulds is moved to the pouring station. The pulling station comprises a pulling head (80), (Fig. 3, not shown), that is advanced hydraulically into the pipe, breaking the core in the process. An air cylinder (86) operates an expansion shoe (84) to grip the pipe and the pulling head is retracted pulling the pipe from the mould on to rollers (90) and on to inclined tracks 46, 48. The spraying station comprises lances 92 that are advanced hydraulically into the empty moulds to coat their insides. The lances are connected to a supply of coating material. The casting machine may be arranged so that there is a central pulling and spraying station and pouring stations are sited at the ends of the track 12.
