Abstract
964,457. Foundry plant. HERMAN PNEUMATIC MACHINE CO. June 5, 1962 [June 19, 1961; Aug. 11, 1961 (2)], No. 21630/62. Heading B3F. Moulds are formed in flasks at one station of a foundry apparatus and are then fed alternately one at a time or in batteries to at least two casting stations, the casting steps at the respective casting stations being staggered in time so that flasks with moulds and castings therein are delivered at approximately uniform intervals alternately from the respective casting stations. Flasks for pipe moulds are gravity fed into a holder 17 at station A which supports a battery of four flasks at a time. The holder is rotatable so that the flasks may be up-ended over vertically movable formers 20 which form elongated cavities in moulding material introduced into the flasks, as described in Application 21628/62. At station B, if desired, the flasks are lowered on to driven rolls 33 which rotate them while the sand is further compacted by mandrels 36 introduced into the moulds, as described in Specification 650,683, which is referred to. At station C, if necessary, cores are introduced into the moulds. Station D is a transfer zone, at which the batteries of flasks are received on a transversely movable car 54 which directs them alternately to the casting stations X, Y which lie on opposite sides of the centre line of the apparatus, each having centrifuging rolls 64, Fig. 3, for the centrifugal casting of metal supplied through funnels 67. From the casting machines the batteries of flasks are fed alternately to a transversely movable car 70 at station F which transports them to the centreline of the apparatus to rails 69, from which they travel to station G, whereat the castings are ejected by rams 74. From the stripper station the flasks roll to an elevator 79 which lifts them to a top conveyer run 84 which carries them to an elevator 4 which lowers them for feeding them into the moulding station A for another cycle. The flasks are moved between the stations B, C, D and F and G by reciprocating trucks 42, 43, coupled together on central rails 41 and having fingers 50, 50<SP>1</SP> which are movable to positions to engage the flasks, and inoperative positions during return strokes. Similar trucks 61, Fig. 3, move the flasks from the car 54 to the casting machines and from the casting machines on to the car 70.
