115,977. Anderson, W. P., Clarke, N .C., and Whitelaw, J. F. Aug. 2, 1917. Limbs, artificial.-An arm is provided with one or more ball-joints with means for locking them in adjusted positions. Figs. 3 and 7 show balljoints arranged to occupy the position of the elbow, but similar joints may be arranged at the shoulder or wrist. The balls 4, 23 engage recesses in clamping-plates 6, 5, 24 pressed apart by springs 12 on tightening-screws with wing-nuts 11. The loose clamping-plate 6, Fig. 3, is prevented from turning by a pin-and-hole engagement with a member 7 integral with the other clamping-plate 5. The stem 8 may be screwed into a socket arranged as described in Specification 107,414. The stem 1 is adapted to carry a tool; Fig 3 shows it provided with a clamp 19 to grip a spade handle.
