Limbs, artificial.-A hand of the type described in Specification 111,357 has a grooved stud 14 which can be fixed in a socket in the arm in different angular positions and is connected to the fingers through a pivot joint which enables the fingers to assume various angular positions with reference to the stud. A loop 47 is pivoted to the finger and serves as a guide for a pencil, knife, &c. held in the fingers. The groove 18 in the stud is engaged by spring- pressed jaws 17 released by a lever 22, and a cam-collar 27 moved by a handle 29 drives the stud axially to lock the stud and pivot 30 in adjusted position. The pivot 30 is connected to arcuate guides 34 engaging recesses 35 in a plate 13 adapted to abut the end plate 10<1> of the arm socket, the axial movement of the stud 14 due to the cam 27 causing the guides 34 to be locked against the plate 13. The fingers are opened against the action of a circular spring 39 by a cable-operated lever 41, which is pivoted to the finger 31<1> and carries a pin 44 engaging the other finger. A resilient knob 37 serves as a substitute for the palm of the hand. An interchangeable false hand carrying a similar stud 14 is provided with a dowel pin which engages a hole 53 in the plate 10<1>.
