Tying or knotting.-A knot-tying device comprises a pair of pivotally-connected levers 1, 2 adapted to be gripped in the hand, a rotary bill 26 having a thread-severing and gripping blade 32, and a thread-gripping device 4. The knotting-bill 26 and the gripper 4 are mounted on the arm 2, and the actuating-means for them on the arm 1. The arm 2 has a tubular upper part 11, Fig. 5, housing a rotary member 14 in which the parts 25 of the bill 26 are secured. The cutter and gripper 32 is pivoted between the parts and has an extension 33 engaging a stationary cam 22 formed on a ring 16. The parts are secured by a hood 12 clamped on by a screw 24. The hood has slots 38 to guide the threads into the bill. The member 14 is rotated by a segmental rack 34 carried by the arm 1 and engaging a pinion 18. A housing 35 is provided for the rack. The gripping- member comprises two plates 39, 41 and a central plate 45. They are secured together and to the arm 2 in such a manner that the central plate 45 first moves to grip the thread, and then the whole body moves forward to draw the loop off the bill. This operation is effected by the engagement of a cam 57, 58 on the arm 1 with pins 50, 51 on the grippers. The knot is formed in the usual manner as indicated in Figs. 16 and 20. The arms are separated by a spring, and the gripper 4 is taken back to normal position by a spring 55. The arms are secured together by a pin 8 which is held by a spring clip 6.
