Abstract

914,298. Surgical needle holders. PORGES S.A. July 31, 1961 [Aug. 2, 1960; July 12, 1961],.No. 27738/61. Class 81 (2). A holder for a surgical suturing needle comprises a clamping member having relatively movable jaws for gripping the needle, the member being rotatable about an axis passing through the jaws. The clamping member for receiving the needle comprises a tubular member 3, Fig. 1, having an end stop against which a sliding jaw member 2, within its bore, may grip the needle. This jaw is actuated through a lever 11, by an inclined end surface 10 on a rod 8 which is pressed forward by a projection 7 on the handle 5 when the finger loops are pressed together. The clamping member 3 is rotatably mounted within a housing at the end of the support tube 1 and may be rotated by a cable 15, Fig. 2, passed around it and connected, at one end, to a spring-tensioned rod 17 and, at the other, to a rod 16 linked to a slidable member 20. This may be locked by a spring catch 25 while the handles 4, 5, Fig. 1, may be locked in the gripping position by the customary ratchet 23.
